Enter Light Up CH for your chance to win!

Are you decorating your house for the holidays? Enter council’s annual competition for your chance to win various prizes!

Be the brightest star in your neighbourhood and partake in some friendly competition. Maybe your house will be the one everyone is stopping in awe at.

Even if you live off the beaten track, you can still participate! Light up your home, rural property fence or business and capture the magical atmosphere of the holidays. Tinsel the trees or fence, decorate your front window, play festive music or hang lights – the creativity doesn’t end!

Entries are now open until 11.59 pm Sunday 10 December 2023.

Judging to take place on 12, 13, and 14 December.

Voting for the 2023 People’s Choice Award will be open on Have Your Say from Monday 11 December 2023 until 8.00 am Monday 18 December.

All winners will be announced and contacted on Tuesday 19 December 2023.

Prizes to be mailed or picked up from the Emerald office on 19, 20, 21 December.

    Residential Displays
    There will be a winner and a runner-up house awarded for each of the above-mentioned areas (North, East, South, West/Central)
    First place: $250 (Vouchers from Mitre 10, Fairbairn Bakery and Pre-Paid Visa Card)
    Runner-Up: $150 (Vouchers from Mitre 10 and Fairbairn Bakery)


    Rural Display
    There will be a first and runner-up awarded for this category across all the above-mentioned areas.
    First place: $250 (Vouchers from Mitre 10, Fairbairn Bakery and Pre-Paid Visa Card)
    Runner-Up: $150 (Vouchers from Mitre 10 and Woolworths)

    Business / Community Organisation Display
    There will be two winners for this category across all the above-mentioned areas.
    First place: $700 (team lunch on Sojitz and voucher for radio ad on Hit FM)
    Second place: $350 (team lunch on Ergon)

    The Beryl Callaghan Spirit Of Christmas Award
    Presented to the display that best demonstrates the spirit of the festive season in honour of the late Beryl Callaghan.
    Prize: $400 (Vouchers from Mitre 10, Fairbairn Bakery, Coles and Pre-Paid Visa Card)

    People’s Choice Award
    Prize: $400 (Vouchers from Sojitz Visa and Woolworths)
  • Conditions of entry

    By entering you indicate that you have read and agree to the below conditions:

    • Only properties in the Central Highlands Regional Council area are eligible.
    • Completed entries must be submitted to Central Highlands Regional Council before 5.00 pm on the day the entry period closes.
    • By entering you consent to your address and/or lights photo to be published.
    • Lights must be on between 7.00 and 11.00 pm during the judging period.
    • Entries in the ‘Best business/Community organisation display’ category must include a photograph (digital or printed) for judging.
    • It is the responsibility of each entrant to ensure their display is safe. Competition sponsors accept no responsibility for costs or injuries which may occur as a result of entry.
    • Winners (as selected by the judging panel) will be announced on a date to be advised and on council’s website and Facebook page.
    • Prize money will be awarded as gift cards from our sponsors.
  • Safety warning

    Central Highlands Regional Council urges participants to remain safety conscious while setting up and pulling down lights, as well as ensure that electrical equipment is in good working order.
