Community has spoken, and council has listened in the search for a new CEO

Mayor Janice Moriarty said: ‘Over the past few days, Council has continued to have conversations with the community and it’s been made especially clear that there is great importance in ensuring the process undertaken to the find the next CEO is transparent, and must not be rushed.   

Gary Stevenson is currently seconded to Council from his advisory business, having offered his availability to support Council as Acting CEO up until the 18 May 2026, as per Council’s original resolution.  

Council is committed to keeping the community updated.   

To ensure the recruitment process for the next CEO is not rushed, and is focused on attracting the best quality candidates for such an important leadership role, Council is required to hold a Special Meeting on 11 May 2026 to appoint an Acting CEO to continue the great interim work of Gary Stevenson.  

This will ensure ample time can be afforded to the search for a new permanent CEO.  

Mayor Janice Moriarty said: ‘Gary is doing outstanding work, as are the entire council team via this transition period, ensuring business as usual in the delivery of essential services to our community including roads, water supply, wastewater treatment, rubbish collection and focusing on great customer service.’
