Central Highlands youth development

Youth are a valuable part of our communities. Council ensures that the youths’ needs are identified and responded to by providing opportunities for young people to feel empowered, engaged and celebrated.

Youth or young people are defined as being a person between the ages of 10 and 17. According to 2016 Census data youth make up roughly 12% of the total population in Central Highlands.

Council’s youth development service organises and funds youth based programs and events that promote social community inclusion across the region throughout the year. The service is also responsible for advocating youth priority areas within council and with other community stakeholders. Some of our initiatives include:

  • Central Highlands Youth Strategy 2024 -28
  • Queensland Youth Week
  • Mayoral Student Leaders Summit
  • Youthinc Groups
  • School Holiday activities
  • Skate Park events
  • Outdoor Movie Nights

Council has undertaken a number of engagement activities where the information gathered will directly influence the action planning for council’s youth service.
