Council supports Central Highlands Easter Sunflower Festival with funding package

Central Highlands Regional Council has reaffirmed its commitment to the celebrated Central Highlands Easter Sunflower Festival in Emerald, approving a $17,392 funding package to ensure the event’s continued success.  

This funding, which includes $5,000 in direct financial support and $12,392 in in-kind contributions, was endorsed during council’s March meeting. 

The festival kicks off on Sunday 13 April, with a High Tea and wraps up with the Music’n’Mingle event at Pioneer Park, Emerald Racecourse on Easter Sunday. The festival will also feature the Easter street parade, the Sunflower Festival Art Exhibition evening, the Queen Quest entrant speech night, and the much-anticipated Easter Rodeo. 

Mayor Janice Moriarty expressed her pride in supporting the festival, highlighting its importance as a major regional event. 

‘The Easter Sunflower Festival is always an exciting highlight of the year. It’s more than just a local event in Emerald, it’s a celebration for the entire Central Highlands,’ Mayor Moriarty said. 

‘It brings together people from all corners of our region, fostering a sense of community and creating lasting memories. While the festival is held in Emerald, its impact extends far beyond the town itself, as visitors and locals alike come together to enjoy the festivities,’ she continued. 

‘We are also deeply grateful to the many volunteers who dedicate their time and effort to make this festival such a success year after year,’ Mayor Moriarty added.  

Council is pleased to continue its support for the Easter Sunflower Festival, reinforcing its status as one of the region’s premier events and a true source of community pride.
