Public notice: Council reminds community irrigation ponds are not for swimming

Central Highlands Regional Council reminds the community that ponds in council-managed areas are not safe for swimming or public access. 

These ponds collect rainwater runoff for irrigation and contain recycled water, equipment, and steep, slippery sides – all posing serious safety risks. 

Entering these areas can also damage young plants, especially in places like Ghungalu Nunee gardens in Blackwater, and there are no safe access points for emergency response. 

Please respect the purpose of these ponds and help protect our infrastructure, environment, and community.
