The Great Northern Clean Up is on while the weather is cool!

Join council in Emerald and Sapphire for the Great Northern Clean Up on Sunday 6 August 2023 at 10.00 am in Emerald and 7.00 am in Sapphire.

‘It’s time for an end-of-season freshen up!’ said Mayor Kerry Hayes,

‘And we’re certainly due for one since the last two Great Northern Clean Up events were cancelled by poor weather,’ he continued.

The Emerald event will station its headquarters at the West Botanic Gardens playground (next to the McIndoe Park Function), and the Sapphire event will take place at Roy Day Park during the Sunday markets.

At each town, participants can register for the event, pick up a kit bag of supplies and head in different directions to tidy up the town.

Once you’ve filled your bag with rubbish, head back to headquarters and speak to council about new information on recycling, waste and more! In Emerald, there will be a free sausage sizzle and family activities.

‘We appreciate everyone’s help getting together as a community for this nationwide event,’ Mayor Hayes continued.

‘By working together, we can make a real difference in our environment and create a cleaner and healthier future for our communities,’ he said.
